My mother is the most beautiful woman, inside out, in this world.

I love her with all my heart and I am thankful to God for her life everyday.

I am talking to God every single minute of every single day and asking him for a Divine Intervention into her life.

Mummy, I can see you dancing and laughing... it is going to happen on this earth and I love you for you.

For some reason, I just remembered the day our maid slapped me across the face.

Where I grew up, it was common to have a housemaid, also affordable. My mother was so nice to the maids, she treated them like family. When I visited friends and family, they treated their maids like maids... meaning that their relationship was purely maid and employer.

My mother was different with the maids. Anythime she travelled outside of the country, she came back with clothes and shoes for the maids. There was this one time when she actually bought the same watch for the maid as mine! LOL!!!

Anyway, back to the reason for this post. One evening, when I was about 6 years old, I'd eaten some pancakes and still wanted some more. My mother said I should go into the kitchen to ask Edet (the maid). I went in:

Me: Can I have some more pancakes?

She slapped me across the face!!!

I ran to my mum and I expected her to slap her cos that's what I'd have done. She went to the kitchen and asked Aunt Edet to leave her home immediately and never come back.

That's my sweet mother for you :-)

My mummy raised four of us on her own. I am not trying to make her sound like a super hero because I know a number of people were raised in single parent households.

I went to one of the best primary schools, a very expensive secondary school and I moved to the UK. I did my A Levels and went to University here and I did not have to take out a loan for any of this.

I did not meet my father until I was 11 years old. Before I met him, I never felt like there was a huge chunk of my life missing, like you would expect. People say children need both mother and father figures in their lives, I do not believe in this at all. My mummy provided for us abundantly, we had beautiful clothes, a lovely home, everything a child would ask for.

After my father and his family's interest in me, my father paid my fees until a very disappointing time which brings me to one memory that sticks :

I was in my final year at University and my fees were not paid yet (my father couldn't pay), I wouldn't have been able to take my final exams or graduate. I called my mother crying, next thing I knew, she had remortgaged her flat and borrowed the money for my fees. I wasn't aware how much stress this was for her until less than 2 weeks after my graduation.

My BEST First Memory of Mummy

I can't decide what my first ever memory of my mother is.

In my home, most of the meals we had were hot and spicy. "Peppery" was the word we used when we were young.

The first time I tasted Meat stew, I cried. Why? It was too "peppery" for me. I ended up eating rice with butter for the next few years of my life. I still wanted to eat the meat though, so my mother put the whole meat in her mouth and sucked the stew out. That sounds really gross, doesn't it? This became a routine and couldn't eat my dinner, if it involved meat stew, without my mother being present to suck out the "peppery" stew.

Looking back at that time now, it makes me love my mummy even more, I never thought that could be possible because I love her so much already. I guess when I see her today or tomorrow, I am going to give her a big hug.

A Blog For Mama

I love my mother, I am in my mid-twenties and everyday I appreciate everything she's done in my life. This song says everything I have on my mind right now:

A Song For Mama by Boyz II Men

You taught me everything
And everything you've given me
I always keep it inside
You're the driving force in my life, yeah
There isn't anything
Or anyone I can be
And it just wouldn't feel right
If I didn't have you by my side
You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were grey
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me
And no one else can be what you have been to me
You'll always be you always will be the girl
In my life for all times

(chorus: )
Mama, mama you know I love you
Oh you know I love you
Mama, mama you're the queen of my heart
Your love is like Tears from the stars
Mama, I just want you to know
Lovin' you is like food to my soul

You're always down for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong
Yes you did And you took up for me
When everyone was downin' me
You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on
There was so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
And then you come to me
And say to me I can face anything
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
You'll always be
You will always be the girl in my life

(chorus )
